The oxidation of MgO-C bricks was analyzed by applying the topo-chemical reaction model to the oxidation rates determined with a thermobalance. The compositions of the brick specimens, which were supplied by Krosaki-Harima Corp., are shown in Table 1. Cubes measuring 20 X 20 X 20 nun were cut out of those bricks and used to determine weight losses at 1673K and 1823K with a thermobalance. The ratio of weight loss to carbon (graphite) content was defined as the decarburization ratio.
